Our first Give and Take Day back in 2009

Give and Take Days have been one of Sustainable Bungay’s most popular events. Initiated with a grant from Bright Green, we rehomed over 10 tonnes of unwanted items at the first event, particularly many large items of furniture. Further events over the years, focused more on smaller household items and clothing, but nevertheless enabled many items to have a new purpose, rather than heading to landfill. One person’s rubbish… as they say!

South Norfolk Council began to run their own Give and Take Days, so we then focused more on specialist events, such as children’s clothes and toys or plant and seed swaps, mainly held at Bungay Library. Recently, we held a incredibly busy Clothes Swap at the Fisher Theatre and an equally successful Equine Table Top Sale and Give and Take event which raised funds for Redwings, a horse rescue charity.

In Halesworth, there is currently a regular Repair Cafe, where people can learn to fix and maintain their own items, including clothing and electricals. This could be an idea for Bungay…
